SC-140 "CAMEL" PCGS BANKNOTE AU55 Dec. 23, 1776 South Carolina Currency
Very Scarce "Camel" December 23, 1776 (1777 on back) "SIX SPANISH milled DOLLARS"
(or Nine Pounds & Fifteen Shillings)
South Carolina Colonial Currency Note.
Very conservatively graded & certified by PCGS BANKNOTE as AU55 with the look of a Choice Uncirculated note. There are absolutely no problems of any kind, and there are no pin holes either.
A very darkly inked and bold example. The borders are tight, but full thus giving this colonial note unusually nice centering. Signed by James Wakefield in dark brown ink.
Impressive "

" emblem with the Latin motto "
NEC ONUS NEC META GRAVABIT
" (
Neither burden nor danger will force me down
). Only 6,000 of these notes were originally printed, and very few of those have survived.
An authentic & historical item that was printed in our nation's birthyear of 1776, and issued issued during the Revolutionary War (1775-83), a few months after the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4th, 1776.
