    Prototype Scouter Position Insignia for the Second Century of Scouting

    These are prototype patches manufactured for field testing and to accompany the treatise, "Scouter Position Insignia--Thoughts for the Second Century." They have been provided to BSA's National Council, BSA's CEO, National Commissioner, and to the Supply Division.  Positive feedback has since been received directly from each of these distinguished Scouters.  A total of 25 prototype insignia sets were manufactured and included eight field-tested positions: Scout Commissioner, District Commissioner, Unit Commissioner, District Executive, Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster, Troop Committee Chair, and Troop Committee.  These were field tested in 2019-2020.  Of the 25 prototypes sets, four sets were sent to the National entities listed for further review, two sets were archived, four sets were used in field testing, and the final 15 sets are being offered here.
    Accompanying each set of the prototype insignia (patches), a

    copy of the treatise
    "Scouter Position Insignia--Thoughts for the Second Century" will be sent to you.  This treatise contains over 80 pages and provides an in-depth examination of the history of Scouter position insignia through Scouting's first century, the effects of the 1970's insignia initiative, and proposals for the second century of Scouter position insignia, with detailed art and pictures.  Additionally the four appendices cover topics on use of the U.S. shield of arms in BSA emblems, use of the U.S. flag on Scout uniforms, and a discussion of insignia differencing.  Again, this treatise is provided to you in
