Antique Japanese Sagemono Inro Dragonfly Ojime & NetsukeThe inro box measures 2 1/4 inches tall x 7/8ths inch across. The cord measures 8 inches long (includes that portion that goes thru the inro. The cord has approximately 5 1/2 inches from the top of the inro to the netsuke. The ojime measures 1 inch long x 1/2 inch wide. The netsuke measures 1 inch in diameter.
Beige in color. Carved bovine bone with hand colored red dragonfly inro with small brown dots. The top portion of the inro lifts off for use. It has a little tiny tab that is intact so when closed, it keeps the design intact. The cord is run thru the walls of the inro and tied at the bottom of the inro. The cord has a ojime - hand carved red and green "bug" that has a green design on the back. The purpose of design on the back is so when worn, you can see a design no matter how it hanging. The ojime is used to slide down to keep the inro lid secure and airtight. The netsuke has a carved red, green and brown dragonfly. The cord runs thru the tab on the back.
This type of vessel was used for carrying various items such as pills as kimonos were without pockets. These vessels were hung from the kimono belts.
